Ezra | Understanding Your Cancer Screening Options
Understanding your screening options

The majority of cancers have no widely available screening programme.

Understanding what's covered - and what isn't - is the first step to taking control of your health.4 The Ezra Scan looks for signs of potential cancer and hundreds of other conditions across up to 13 organs, in as little as 22 minutes, with no GP referral.

The screening gap

The NHS provides excellent care. Its screening is deliberately narrow.

National screening covers three cancers.4 Many of the most serious cancers have no routine screening pathway at all5 - so unless you go looking, there's often nothing checking.

What the NHS screens for

Three national programmes

  • โœ“ Breast - mammogram, ages 50โ€“70
  • โœ“ Cervical - smear test, ages 25โ€“64
  • โœ“ Bowel - home test kit, ages 60โ€“74

Most programmes don't begin until age 50.4

What isn't routinely screened

Why it matters

The numbers make the case for looking early.

Every figure below is a general fact about cancer in the UK, drawn from published sources. See the references at the foot of the page.

90%
five-year survival at early stage, versus roughly 25% at late stage.6

people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.8

They felt fine too

Most early-stage cancers produce no symptoms.7

Feeling well is a good sign - not a guarantee. By the time many cancers cause symptoms, they're already advanced. Screening looks before there's anything to feel.

"I had no reason for concern - it was just a screening - so I was very surprised to find that my scan turned up an alarmingly large brain tumour."

My doctors told me that had I not gotten that scan, it could easily have been 5 to 10 years before the tumour had been discovered. In all likelihood, my scan bought me years of additional quality of life.

The Ezra Scan

Our scan helps you take control.

In a single session, the Ezra Scan looks for signs of potential cancer and hundreds of other conditions across up to 13 organs - reviewed by a board-certified radiologist.

  • โœ“ 22 minutes in the scanner
  • โœ“ Up to 13 organs, hundreds of potential conditions
  • โœ“ No GP referral and no waiting list
  • โœ“ No symptoms required - this is screening, not a reaction
  • โœ“ Radiation-free - magnetic fields and radio waves, not X-rays
"What it's like is turning on the light in a dark room. With the light, you can see what's going on, what's there, what you need to action - and what you don't need to worry about."
Dr Dhara Pannick, UK Clinical Director, Ezra

About your results. Most scans turn up incidental findings - small cysts or benign nodules. Every finding is graded 1 to 5 by clinical significance, so you know exactly what to simply monitor and what (rarely) needs prompt action. You're never left to interpret a report on your own.
The technology

Imaging that sees what you can't feel.

Finds the small stuff

Our multiparametric MRI can pick up small areas of concern, far smaller than would ever trigger a symptom.

No ionising radiation

Unlike a CT scan, MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves - so it's safe for proactive screening.

Common questions about screening

I feel perfectly healthy - why would I need this?+

Because most early-stage cancers produce no symptoms.7 Feeling well tells you how you feel today; it can't tell you what's happening inside. Screening is designed for exactly this moment - before there's anything to feel - so that if something is there, it can be found while it's most treatable.

Doesn't the NHS already screen for cancer?+

For three cancers - breast, bowel and cervical - and most programmes don't start until age 50.4 There's no routine national screening for many of the most serious cancers, including pancreatic, kidney, liver, ovarian and prostate.5 The Ezra Scan is designed to look in the places national screening doesn't reach.

I'm under 50 - surely I'm too young to worry?+

Cancer in UK adults aged 25โ€“49 has risen 24% since 1995,1 and bowel cancer in the under-50s is up 52% since the early 1990s.2 Yet most NHS screening doesn't begin until 50.4 Being proactive earlier is increasingly relevant, not less.

What if a finding is concerning?+

Every finding is graded 1 to 5 by clinical significance. Most are incidental and benign - small cysts or nodules to simply keep an eye on. If something does need attention, your dedicated provider walks you through exactly what it means and the recommended next steps. You're supported throughout.

Is this just a private healthcare upsell?+

It's a screening MRI, not a diagnosis or a substitute for your GP. It exists to close a specific gap: many serious cancers have no national screening pathway,5 and early detection matters because survival is far higher at early stage than late.6 If your scan is clear, that peace of mind is the point.

Do I need a GP referral?+

No. The Ezra Scan doesn't require a doctor's order to book - we provide that for you. Book online, choose a location and time, and complete a short medical questionnaire.
